Shooting Sticks/Bipods – More Tips (Part 2)

Stoney Point Steady Stix II and Safari Stix II

Retail: $40.00-$60.00

The affordable Stoney Points Stix II versions set-up in a snap by connecting the bi-pod leg pieces end-to-end, similar to typical elastic corded aluminum tent poles. A connecting brace holds together the rubberized handles at the top of each pole. The handles quickly form a V by crossing the poles. Hunters find the Steady Stix and Safari Stix II versions in two sizes, measuring 16 to 38 inches and 25 to 62 inches in height when fully extended.

Pros: Being inexpensive and offering quick assembly are factors that attract hunters of all ages to try the product.

Cons: Extending and interlocking the legs may create enough noise to scare game and spoil a shot. The connecting bungee cords lose elasticity with extended use, which prevents leg pieces from staying connected. The rubberized tips on some models may detach and become lost.

SnipePod V2

Retail: $90-$110

The V2 bi-pod shooting sticks are individually created in varying leg lengths ranging from 10 inches for prone positions to 72 inches for standing shots. The folding bi-pod assembles quickly via interlocking leg pieces connected by elasticized cord.

The top of the poles connect to the narrow lightweight head via a unique ball and socket joint that enables each leg swivel action up to 80 degrees from center. The swiveling concept allows for stable positioning on uneven terrain or around obstacles. Individuals also adjust bi-pod height by varying the span between the legs. Regardless of extended leg length, all bi-pod models function for prone positions by leaving legs completely folded.

Designed for use with pistols, rifles or shotguns, hunters merely detach the barrel end of the sling from the firearm sling stud. Slide the QDMT over the stud and insert the dowel pin. Tighten the entire unit in the front of the QDMT using the accompanying wrench and reattach the sling to the rear of the QDMT.

Carrying the combination bi-pod and firearm is lightweight and enables quick set-up for that perfect shot. Being attached to the firearm, the V2 also provides fast recoil recovery, allowing hunters the opportunity to fire multiple shots in succession.

Pros: The versatile positioning system and firearm attachment capability allow for quick set-up. Factory set ball joint tension keeps legs in the same position even if moving the bi-pod from one location to another.

Cons: The elasticity of the cord linking the tent pole like legs wears with extended use, preventing a tight connection and attempts at a fast set-up generally alerts game to the hunter’s presence. The interconnecting legs do not afford the same versatile range of height adjustment as telescoping legs. Attaching the firearm to the device limits overall horizontal swivel.
