Ground Blinds For Hunting – Tips On Best Blind For Deer

Hunting from a ground blind for deer has its advantages and disadvantages. There are many hunting ground blinds to choose from, so which one is best for your type of deer hunting? Here are 3 tips…

Hunting Ground Blind Design And Size

If you hunt deer only with a rifle, but decide to take up bowhunting later on, you’ll probably need two different types of ground blinds. Why? Because some ground blinds are designed specifically for bowhunters (ie, bigger size, more space, larger shooting window, etc), while other blinds are suitable only for rifle deer hunters.

So before you select a ground blind for deer hunting, first decide if you are going to use a rifle or bow. This makes it easier to narrow your ground blind choices.

Camo For Ground Blinds

Ground blinds made for deer hunting come in many camo patterns. Obviously you would want the camo pattern to closely resemble the environment you intend to hunt deer in. This is important because your blind is at ground level and deer will notice unfamiliar objects that stand out.

Even if your ground blind is the right camo pattern, its a good idea to use foliage from the area to conceal your blind to make it look more like a bush. And this will also help breakup the outline of your hunting blind.

Scent Control Ground Blinds

Deer have an excellent sense of smell. Hunting from a ground blind means you must be extra careful where its positioned in relation to wind direction. Some portable hunting ground blinds now come with a carbon lining, like Scent-Lok used in hunting clothing. While such scent blocking ground blinds are not completely foolproof, you want every advantage you can get, especially when hunting deer.

Using ground blinds for deer hunting is becoming more popular, because many hunters realize they can quickly move from one area to another. But remember to practice using your blind (ie, shooting from different positions) so you are completely comfortable with your ground blind before deer season starts.
